Water jet incremental sheet metal forming: a critical state-of-the-art review and a proposal for technological windows

Nowadays the development of innovative processes is a major challenge for industries which want to prototype functional workpieces. Incremental sheet forming (ISF) good alternative metal prototyping ensure flexibility, accuracy part produced, and cost effectiveness. A derived process, Water Jet Sheet Forming (WJISF), has been undergoing since 2001 this paper purpose give its state art. Different eclectic industrial fields could be concerned by WJISF process: automotive, micro-electronics, medical, aerospace industry, example. As ISF device needs multi-axial machine, but it also pressure pump with sufficient flow rate pressure. In an environmental point view, process can seen as “green” one giving that water recycled there no lubricant. general methodology defined rigorously investigate focus on researchers’ teams, technological feasibility, numerical simulations, machine-tool uses, real parts manufacturing. The study presented here provides summarizing evidence, especially windows, quick view actual knowledges will help scientists industrials find parameters related their needs. lot simple tests have carried out experimental comparisons. Nevertheless, few manufactured, complex shape obtained remains scientific field explore.
